It’s Medicare Open Enrollment Time!
If you are on Medicare, this is the time to review your options. Open Enrollment begins on October 15th and runs through December 7th. After December 7th, you will not be able to enroll, or make a change to your Medicare Advantage or Prescription Drug plan unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment (for things like involuntarily losing your coverage, or moving out of the coverage area). Here are some things you should consider:
If you have Medicare A & B but don’t have Part D Prescription Drug Plan (PDP):
Now is the time to enroll in a Prescription Drug Plan, even if you aren’t taking any medications. Failure to enroll during your initial enrollment period will result in a penalty when you do enroll.
- You can enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) that includes a Prescription Drug Plan.
- You can enroll in a Medicare Supplement and a Stand Alone Prescription Drug Plan.
- You can enroll in a Stand Alone Prescription Drug Plan
If you have a Stand Alone Prescription Drug Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan with a PDP Plan:
Now is the time to review your drug costs. Are you paying too much for your medications? Prescription Drug Plans' formulary lists vary from plan to plan. To find a plan that’s right for you, visit Medicare.gov’s “Find A Plan”, contact your Medicare certified agent, or you can contact Faller Insurance Agency for assistance.
If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C):
Now is the time to review your plan to make sure it’s right for you.
- Is your plan working the way you expected?
- Are your preferred doctors and hospitals in the plan?
- Do you have a lot of out of pocket costs?
- Do you want to include dental or other benefits?
- Would you like to have an Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement instead?
